History of Karaoke
The Japanese word "karaoke" has become common throughout the world and is now published in English dictionaries. Karaoke is a typical form of entertainment for Japanese business people; they drop into a bar with colleagues after work, have a drink, and enjoy singing popular songs to the accompaniment of karaoke. Karaoke has been entertaining people ever since its invention 20 years ago, and has become firmly established in Japanese, American societies and many other countries throughout the world,
"Kara" comes from "karappo" meaning empty, and "oke" is the abbreviation of "okesutura," or orchestra.
CDs or tapes in with only the instrumental version of a popular song are called "karaoke."
Karaoke started in Kobe City, Japan. Rumor has it that a strolling guitarist could not come to perform at the bar due to illness. The bar owner used instrumental tape recordings for use by his customers to sing to. From that time forward, karaoke grew and has become popular all around the world.

Using technological innovations such as the video disk, laser disk, and CD graphics, karaoke has grown to be a major entertainment industry. Family-use karaoke sets have also become popular, making the amusement formerly limited to night spots possible in the home.
A "Karaoke Box" is a closed door insulated room used for singing karaoke. The first karaoke box was built in the Kansai area of Japan. A meeting place for office workers, student, high schools student and married people; the karaoke box has become widely popular.
Karaoke displays the words and scenes of a song on a monitor. The words are synchronized to set the pace for the singer and the video background sets the mood by displaying pictures associated with the song.
Karaoke has made a great contribution to the history of musical entertainment.
